One floor up from Sabor Latino you’ll see a wall with a small square hole in the middle of it. This is Taam-Tov (212-768-8001), a kosher Russian restaurant. Go to that hole, because it is from there that a treasure emerges: a $6 shawarma packed with hummus and chunks of freshly roasted chicken. It’s so good you’ll forget all about the sketchy Russian guys exchanging money on the stairs and the dirty dustbins in the corner. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, open the wooden door to the left of the hole and you’ll find a bustling sit-down café, where large men stuff enormous amounts of food into their giant mouths. They’re gold salesmen from the street, and they eat even faster than they talk.
just because i’ve been told, “isuru, go back to russia,” does not mean i’m russian!
I just thought you’d like the line “go to that hole, because it is from there that a treasure emerges…” Beautiful!
“they’re gold salesmen from the street”
i’m more of a gold producer from a leather seat
