Things to do with out of town guests on Sunday
Published by amit September 28th, 2005 in Things to Do.Since we’ve got so many people coming in from out of town and staying the night, I thought I’d list a couple weird things going on Sunday after our housewarming:
Southern Manhattan
October 2: Fifth Annual New York City International Pickle Day Festival
Nosh on the Lower East Side with samples from Guss’ Pickles, Russ & Daughters, The Pickle Guys, and more! This events celebrates all things pickled — not just your typical cukes. If you can pickle it, it’ll be part of the festivities. 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Orchard Street between Houston and Stanton Streets. Co-sponsored by the NY Food Museum, the Lower East Side Business Improvement DistrictSource: Gothamist
Northern Manhattan:
Camelot Returns to Manhattan!
Rub the rust off thy armor, iron thy chain mail and polish up on ye chivalry because the 2005 Medieval Festival at Fort Tryon Park will be held on SUNDAY, OCTOBER 2nd, from NOON - 6PM!
The annual event is sponsored by the City of New York Parks and Recreation and the Washington Heights and Inwood Development Corporation (a not-for-profit organization). This is the festival’s 21st year!
Admission is free.
Expected Attendance: 40,000The festival is a unique chance to experience the medieval period in the most authentic setting this side of Europe. The area around the Cloisters Museum in Fort Tryon Park is transformed into a medieval market village where knights in armor, jugglers, jesters, magicians, musicians, storytellers, and puppeteers will perform. A blacksmith, manuscript illuminator, pottery decorator, wood carver and other artisans will demonstrate their crafts. Performers and fairgoers dress in historical costumes. Medieval food is available and craft items will be sold. The afternoon culminates with a jousting event between knights on horseback!

- Grub
A cheap, simple dinner for strangers and co-conspirators.
We are a small group of people who do a lot of other things in New
York, like decorate subways and throw parties in the streets. We work
with several collectives and art groups, like Toyshop, Madagascar
Institute, and Visual Resistance. At Grub we’re just offering dinner.
Whether you are active in other collectives, your neighborhood, your
backyard garden, or just new to town, we invite you to our table. To
get a little squishy, we are looking for practical ways to build
community. We are particularly inspired by weekly dinners served at
squats in Amsterdam in Berlin, where you can get a cheap, tasty meal
and catch up with friends in a cozy room. We like parties as much as
anyone, but we think there should be places to talk without a pounding
sound system.
We are not gourmands nor fancy cooks; we offer simple food simply
prepared. We will only be able to serve 40 people, first come first
serve. There will be plates for vegans and vegetarians alike. Please
come early and hang out.
